Bristol Palin, daughter of the Republican presumptive vice presidential nominee, is pregnant at seventeen years old. How is this relevant to the current presidential race? Some are saying it reflects and Gov. Palin's ability to run an office, because she clearly cannot run her own household. How ridiculous is that? If that is the argument, why is this even an issue?
Barack Obama said it himself and defended Bristol Palin claiming, "the families of the candidates are off-limits." End of story.
Now the claim that Obama is inexperienced is called into question with this v.p. pick. McCain continuelly makes claims that Obama is clearly not capable of being the president because he does not have the experience. Republicans are still making this claim in spite of the v.p. pick. Some even go far as to say Palin has more experience than Obama. Lets take a minute to compare their resumes.
Obama:
U.S. senate; 2004-present
Illinois senate; in 1996-2004
Palin:
Governor of Alaska; 2006-present
Wasilla Mayer; 1996-2002
Wasilla City Counsel; 1992-1996

I believe that while Senator Obama was a State Senator he voted present 130 times. Why not take a stance and represent your constituents. Senator Obama has only sat as A US Senator for 1 year and then started his run for President. Senator Obama does feel that he has the experience but not from any of the reasons you cited.

I know you will not believe it since it is on Fox so here is "The Savior" saying it himself.

What do you know about me and my bias towards Fox? And "The Savior"? How childish. You can call him the savior because he has the ability to make people listen, I can call McCain McSame or something equally stupid but what is the point?
ReplyDeleteAnyways. To say that is his only reason for claiming she is less experience is also silly. He was making a point about her pre-governor experience, showing how it could hardly be labeled experience. I didn't even mention how small the town was in my post so I thought I was being very fair.
My comment about the Fox channel was not directed at you in any way. If you took it as that, I apologize. It is just that if I ever site Fox as a source, people get all up in my "stuff". If you would be honest and answer this question:
ReplyDeleteWho has more experince in your opinion, Senator Obama or Gov. Palin?
I am not asking this to argue with you, I just like knowing peoples thoughts. I respect your opinion and I enjoy your blog.
I would have to say Obama is easily more experienced. I watched what was essentially a documentary on fox two weeks ago that made testament to his experience.
ReplyDeleteAny chance you want to co-author this blog with me and bring a conservative side to it?
What about this:
ReplyDeleteBarack Obama: Graduated from Columbia with a B.A. in Political Science/Intl. Relations, went to Harvard Law School, editor of Harvard Law Review.
Sarah Palin: Graduated from University of Idaho with a B.A. in Journalism.
Finally someone who approaches this reasonably. An enjoyable blog where disagreements are handled with civility. I agree that a teenage daughter's pregnancy is irrelevant, but remember you're comparing a VP candidate to the Presidential candidate. I think it speaks volumes that their experience is relatively the same.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment, feel free to voice your opinion on any of my blogs.
ReplyDeleteComparing Palin to Obama, while interesting, misses the point. Obama isn't running against Palin, he's running against McCain. While I am no lover of McCain or the the Republican party for that matter, Obama supporters cannot claim that Obama's experience is remotely comparable to McCain.
ReplyDeleteWhile I believe Obama is a skilled orator and an impressive man, in the final analysis you have to compare the two candidates' records. Which one has a track-record of getting Congress together to pass laws? McCain is the clear answer which is why he will get my vote this year.
Moreover, of the two candidates I think McCain will be more moderate than people think. If you go to govtrack and have a look at his record and then compare it to Obama.
Good point, Obama's resume does not compare to McCain's. But I cannot vote for McCain because of his stance on the major issues. It seems like I agree with none of his ideals.
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest problems I have had with his McCain which showed clearly this week at the RNC is his fearmongering. In most of the speeches this weak, the speaker has stressed that the United States needs to wipe out any of our potential enemies. I know that is a broad conclusion, but that is the feeling I get from speakers of the RNC.
I think every other channel needs to be exhausted before entering into a war which is why I am scared about what McCain would do. I believe Obama will be the better diplomat hands down.
There is no doubt the Bush administration has engaged in its share of fear-mongering since September 11th. They used it as the excuse to push through a ton of neo-con agenda items under the guise of "National Security". They somehow made the leap from Islamic extremist terrorism to toppling an sectarian Muslim government in Iraq to illegal Mexican immigrants to monitoring US citizens. Huh?
ReplyDeleteDo you really get the same feeling that John McCain would promote the same values as W, or are you feeding into Obama's "George Bush's 3rd term" marketing line?
Actually Palin does have more EXECUTIVE experience than Obama or Biden. In fact, she has more EXECUTIVE experience than McCain. The difference is they have "legislative experience." They vote as part of a large body where responsibility is thinned out by the size of the party. A mayor, governor, or president has executive responsibility where the buck stops with them and them alone. That is what the Republicans are saying. And I believe Obama made this an issue first. It was somewhere after he visited the 58th state.
